Leonor "Lee"
Henriquez Class of 1967
.
* I have lived in Newport News,
VA since 1977.
* I have 4 children...James is 31 yrs
old-Donna is 29-Robert is 25 and Teresa is 23.
* I also have 4 grandchildren...1 boy, age 11
and 3 girls, ranging in ages from 6 months to 3 yrs.
* I have been a military wife since the age
of 18. My first husband and I married in July of '67, he was already in
the Army...I was married to him for 5 years and had two children. My
second husband (who was also in the Army), and I were married for 10 years and
had 2 more children. My husband of 17 years is retired Army and since we
had enough children to raise, we had none of our own. His 1st name is
Vaughn and is originally from New Jersey. As a result of being a military
wife for so long, I spent 7 years in Germany and 3 of my children were born
there...1 in Frankfurt and 2 in Nurnberg. Donna was the only one born in
the USA and that was in Ft Rucker, Alabama. I camped throughout a lot of the
European countries and had a fantastic time there during those 7 years.
* We are cross country truck drivers....well,
my husband is the truck driver, I am just the navigator, secretary and
bookkeeper, but I am good at it. We own our own tractor. Before I
quit my job in the corporate world to join my husband in the truck, I was a
Medicare Specialist.
My brothers and I all graduated from SWSH. I am Leonor (Lee)
Henriquez now Guy. I married an Army man a month after graduation and left
for Germany. I stayed married to this abuser for 5 years and had two
children. A son and a daughter, one born in Germany, the other in
Alabama. I finally had enough nerve to leave and off I went. I
married another wonderful Army man after that....my night in shining
armor....however, the armor rusted after 7 years and after two more children,
another boy and girl, both born in Germany, he decided he no longer wanted a
wife and 4 children so he left. We were married 11 years by the time we
divorced. Well, always being the one with the great sense of humor and
never willing to give up, I again married in 1982. We just celebrated our
15th year...no we had no more children....I brought 4 into the marriage and he
brought one, that was enough. We had some rocky years at first, but it all
worked out beautifully afterwards.
My children are now 29, 27, 23 and 20. We are retired
military. My husband has been a truck driver for 35 years and I have
worked with computers in the medical field for a number years. My husband
has always talked of buying his own truck, but wouldn't because when you own
your own you have to stay on the road to make good money and he doesn't like
being away from home that long. So, 6 months ago I encouraged him to buy
his truck, I gave my notice at work, and 3 months ago I left to go on the road
with him. I will be getting my CDL (commercial driving license) in the
spring, and hope to learn how to drive these big rigs. The truck doesn't
intimidate me, it's the 53 feet trailer that worries me. There are alot of
women truck drivers out there, that really surprised me....also, there are a lot
of women that are riders just like me. We have been to 27 states in the
last 3 months. I am loving it. We have leased ourselves to MS
Carriers, go anywhere they sent us and come home when we want to. It's
wonderful and the money is terrific. We have a 9-year-old grandson, a
4-month-old grand daughter and another due in March. We raised the
grandson until last July. When he finally went to live with his mother,
who is an x-ray tech in the Army stationed in Ft Jackson, SC. I decided
then that it was time to go with my husband before anyone else had any ideas of
me raising any more children.
I have been living in Newport News, VA since 1977 when my ex and I
returned from our last trip to Germany. My mother and my brothers also
live here. Well, my oldest brother, Ralph Henriquez, who graduated from
Southwest in '65, passed away in 1995. However, my other brother, who
graduated in '66, Robert Henriquez, lives here and still makes his living in
music. We just got in from Laredo, TX this past Friday and we will be
leaving again on Monday. I try to check my mail while on the road. I
have a laptop in the truck and will be adding the modem next month. In the
meantime, I do sign in from truck stops that offer Internet connection...there
are some...we have already decided to come home on the 20th of February. I
will really enjoy reading all the mail from everyone.
