Ellen Kruger Class of 1967
After SW, I earned my AA at Miami-Dade Junior College. In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart Jerry "Skeeter" Whitaker. Some of you "boys of summer" may have played American Legion baseball with him or against him (Christopher Columbus '66, FSU '70). We lived in Broward County for 9 years, Tallahassee for 4, Dallas for 1, and been inJacksonville, FL since 1987. Sadly, Jerry (a non-smoker) died of lung cancer in 1992 just four weeks after my mother died of pancreatic cancer. A strong faith carried me and my family through the most difficult of times.
I was blessed to remarry 13 years ago to a really great guy. George is a retail store manager for JoAnn, and we live in a "55 and up active adult community" to which George fondly refers as "fossil city"! Together we love going to Jaguars games (well, we used to love them), dining out, cruising, and convertibles. I have 2 sons, a daughter, and 2 stepsons. Jason "Jay" (38) has sons Logan (3) and Zachary (10 mos.), resides inJacksonville, and is ops mgr for GCA Services/Duval County School Board. Damon (35) has daughter Sophia (2 1/2) and is litagator for BryanCave in Atlanta, GA. Kelly (32) has sons Dylan (7) and Daniel (5), resides in Port Orange, FL and is a licensed independent insurance agent. Justin (33) manages "The Pearl" night club here in town; George III (23) attends school in Tallahassee having recently returned from deployment with the Army in Iraq.
Over the years, I have worked mostly as an administrative assistant to VP's - 5 years at M-DJC, then 11 years "stay-at-home" mom, 1 year at United Press International, 11 with The Gillette Company, and 3 with Unilever Bestfoods. The job I miss the most was working for Queen's Harbour Yacht and Country Club for over 7 years, where I did everything from sales, coordinating events, and even officiating at wedding ceremonies. I've finally retired, as a bad back and fibromyalgia slow me down quite a bit. My favorite things are being "Mimi" to my 5 grandkids, floral arranging, and reading.
