Sally Perretta Class of 1967
July 15th, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York. Moved to Miami in 1954. Went to David
and South Miami Jr. High before it became South Miami Middle.
I have been a silent member of KIT since my first contact for the 35th reunion. I was in Cosmetology class at Southwest for my Junior and Senior year. After graduation and passing the exam to be a licensed Cosmetologist, I worked in the Beauty Salon of Jackson Byrons in Coral Gables on Miracle Mile where I became reacquainted with a fellow Eagle, Salvador DeLaRosa. We dated and were married in May of '68. I left J Byrons and went to work in South Miami at Maybell's Beauty Salon. I was sick all the time and found out I was allergic to all the chemicals I was using. I went to work for Exotic Gardens Florist in December of '68 part time for the Holiday season, and after Christmas was asked to stay on full time; I worked there for 13 years. In July of '72 I had my daughter Selena. I was divorced in '75 after being separated for a while. I left the flower business temporarily in '81 to work at X-Ray Equipment Company. I went back to the flower business in '82 where I worked for an importer broker called World Flowers Inc. I met my wonderful husband Paul in '89 at Kendall Dance Studio. He was a Professor of Mathematics at the U of Miami. We married in '90. He has three wonderful daughters, who have taken me into their family like I am a blood relative. Carol, Alice and Linda all graduated from Killian HS and Carol and Linda from U of Miami and Alice from U of Alabama. Carol and her husband Joe live in Miami and both work for FPL; they have 5 children ages 21, 19, 18, 17 and 10. Alice and her husband live in McKinney, Texas. Don is VP for his area for Trinity Insurance Company, Alice plays a lot of tennis and they have 2 children ages 20 and 17. Linda lives in Royal Palm Beach and is a computer programmer and her husband works for Pratt Whitney; they have 2 children ages 16 and 6. Selena graduated from Coral Gables HS in '90, from U of Miami in '94 and moved to Columbia, South Carolina where she worked at U of South Carolina, She came back to Miami and received her Masters Degree in '99 from U of Miami. She also married in '99 a boy she had grown up with from our church. She and Bryce moved to Orlando, Florida where she works for the U of Central Florida, Clermont Campus and he is a teacher and works part time at Disney. Carol's son Joey now 20 was a star soccer player at Coral Reef High and now attends Miami Dade. Chris age 17 is a star football player at Killian. Alice's daughter Linda age 17 is a star basketball player in Texas. Paul and I support our grandchildren as much as we can by going to as many games as possible. We are active in the Kendall Presbyterian Church; we play hand bells and sing in the choir. I also sing in the praise and worship team, lead a Bible study class and mail the study to shut-ins. Since retiring in '94 I also work in the church office as a volunteer. Paul retired in '98 after 40 years at U of Miami. He still maintains his office and does a lot of administrative work. He also runs the David Essner High School Math competition. We dance, belong to the Elks Lodge on Sunset, have season tickets to the U of Miami football games and love to travel. I have and still do live in the Southwest School district after all these years. The 35th reunion was the best one we have had and I think I have been to all but the 10th. I am looking forward to the next reunion and would like to be included in any Miami mini-reunions. KIT
